Clearly, rejection is one of the worst feelings in life. Nothing feels as bad as something that tells us that we’re not worth it or that we’re not good enough. While this can have long-lasting effect on us, what we need to remember is that there has to be a certain level of acceptance as far as rejection is concerned. It is natural that the mood, motivation and urge to move on in life somewhat take a backseat.
Here are the things that we need to do in order to come back from rejection and heal our soul.
Do not be critical of yourself: The worst thing you can do to yourself is beat yourself up about what has happened. You should only learn, understand why the rejection takes place in the first place and move on. Do not try to convince yourself that you deserve. Always remember that you deserve much more and you can get over the failure.
Remember your worth. Think of all the times you’ve succeeded in life and let them be the badges of your victories. You might even consider making a list of all your qualities as well as your shortcomings. Make it a point to work on your shortcomings, keeping your strengths as the benchmark. This is important to revive our self-esteem.
Connect with the important people of your life. Call up your parents, share and discuss the situation with them. Maybe try and meet your old friends and distance yourself from the event of rejection. Emotional support is extremely important in order to heal yourself from such a situation.
Assess the changes that might happen. It is not very wise to consider that everything will fall back in place. Maybe you will not get the job that has been your dream for long. Probably you will not be able to marry the love of your life. All you need to tell yourself is that it is okay. You do not need to keep pursuing it, lest you might fail again and this could break you.
And then try again. Once you have accessed the situation and understand the changes it could have on your life, get prepared to be at it again if possible. This might seem contradictory to the previous point but you need to try only when you’re ready this time. When you fail a class, you do not simply give the exam again; you take the exam again after going through the entire tuitions. That is what you need to do as well.
Remember that rejection is not the end of the world. You do not need validation from one person or one particular event. Move on. Life is beyond.
