You are your own hero.
Life,a beautiful journey, though comes with its own share of ups and downs... making everyone realize that there is a hidden strength,a spirit of heroism in each one of us. I remember an incident which I would like to share here.
I was attending a workshop on skill development and there was this lady complaining non-stop about how miserable she was in her job. She went on and on about how she hated her boss, her colleagues and most of all, felt as if she was wasting years of her life by being in that job.
I could not resist myself to ask her a very obvious question ,” If you are so miserable here, shouldnt you consider finding another job that will make you happy?” She gave me a very bad look, before she finally responded-” Well, I have bills to pay and why should I leave the job! These stupid people working here should be the ones who have to quit, not me…” blah, blah, blah…
She seemed to believe that the responsibility for fixing her unhappiness in her job belonged to her company, her coworkers and to her boss.
I could relate this to my own experiences in life few years ago.
The fact is,no one can save her from the job she hates. It is very foolish to believe that someone else has the power to save us,besides ourselves?
Let's be real.
Superhero isn't coming,because Superhero isn't real.
And even if he was real,he would probably be too busy to save us anyway.
The good news is that we don't need any Superhero.
Our lives are ours and only ours responsibility.
Simply put,we are our own heroes in our lives.
Doesn't that make sense?
We're the ones in charge of our thoughts, words and actions.
We're the ones responsible for our overall happiness and well-being.
Neither it was nor will it ever be our bosses, our parents, our spouses or anyone else who hold any power over us.
Unless we choose to give them that power.
Our power belongs to us only. And the biggest mistake that we'll ever make in our lives is giving that power to someone else.
Here I would like to share a quote .. The best advice I've ever received-
“The world owes you nothing. It was here first.” Mark Twain.
We all go through some whiny phases in our journey of life, complaining, making excuses, blaming everyone else for our problems. But then this changed my whole perspective.
“ The world doesn't owe you anything.”
At times it pinches but it's true. The world doesn't owe us anything.
We tend to fall victim to these common thoughts.
“ I work to the best of my ability and try to manage my house and career. I deserve to be treated better! It's so unfair!”
“ I give my job my 100%effort. I deserve a boss who respects me.”
“ I do everything for my family. I deserve a spouse who appreciates me.”
“ I'm kind and compassionate. I deserve a loving relationship.”
True, your boss should respect you, your spouse should appreciate you and you deserve the greatest love that this world has to offer. But if you're not getting those things, then don't wait for some magic to happen. The world owes us nothing.
We owe it to ourselves to make those things happen for us.
Being our own heroes isn't about ‘easy’.
What is easy is making excuses and blaming others for our problems. Being a hero means taking full responsibility over the quality of our lives. I failed to do that for far too many years and have paid a very steep price for it both professionally and personally. Holding on to excuses and blaming others will only make us weaker.
“ Growth is painful.
Change is painful.
But nothing is as painful
as staying stuck somewhere you don't belong”
I too have been through quite a few hells, and I feel that I still have the ability to smile. It's all about how you handle the situation. It wasn't at all easy for me but the day I chose to love myself enough to find the strength within,my life changed. Its there in all of us. We are never handed more than we can handle.
The moment we decide that no one has the power over our happiness, our well being except for us,believe me all your fear will just vanish.
Thus from now on---
No more giving away our power to excuses and blaming. No more waiting for the world to give us what we feel we deserve. No more waiting for any Superman to come in your life.
You are your own hero in this cycle of life.
No one can defeat you but yourself.
